Day 1: Kigali - Musanze
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by a representative, briefed on your trip and introduced to your driver guide. You will be transferred to Hotel des Mille Collines to enjoy lunch, and then visit the Kigali genocide memorial site with its three permanent exhibitions. We leave for Musanze and arrive in the evening at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge for a most enjoyable stay.
Day 2: Volcanoes National Park (Gorilla Trekking)
A short transfer takes you to the RDB offices for the gorilla trekking briefing after which you will be transferred to the trekking point in the Volcanoes National Park. The highlight of the day is spending an hour with these gorillas who, in spite their size and appearance, are remarkably peaceful. Get to watch as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting and raising their young. After this memorable experience, we return to the lodge and in the afternoon, we visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village – a village that creates income-generating activities for rural poor people who are ex-poachers, and provides experiences for tourists beyond wildlife viewing, giving the experience to learn about the people, culture and how they live.
Day 3: Musanze - Kigali - Nyungwe
Leave Musanze early for your flight from Kigali International Airport to Nyungwe National Park. On landing at Kamembe Airstrip, your driver guide will meet you and take you to Nyungwe Forest Lodge for check-in. The heart of Nyungwe Forest is like a scene from a fairytale with tall trees, giant ferns, orchids, brightly colored birds, butterflies and a variety of primates for which the park is renowned. Enjoy lunch and have the afternoon at leisure to enjoy the spectacular view of the forest and the lodge facilities.
Day 4: Nyungwe (Chimpanzee Trekking)
Make the most of an early-morning start with a packed breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for your chimpanzee trek briefing. Upon encountering chimps in the evergreen forest, you will be allowed to stay with them for no more than an hour as you enjoy their acrobats, feeding life and their day-to-day antics. Chimpanzees’ playfulness and human-like characteristics make the long day worthwhile – and you may also encounter a stunning variety of birdlife. After a memorable experience, drive back to the lodge for lunch and an afternoon at leisure. You could take a walk through the green tea plantations and socialize with any locals you may meet along the way. In the evening, savor a traditional tea ceremony.
Day 5: Nyungwe - Kigali
Depart for the Kamembe Airstrip for your scheduled RwandAir flight to Kigali. Transfer to the city for last-minute souvenir shopping, and if time permits, dinner. You will be returned to Kigali International Airport and assisted with checking in for your flight home.
