Turtle Tracking In The iSimangaliso Wetland Park…

If you are traveling to South Africa between November and February, consider including a few nights in the Greater iSimangaliso Wetland Park (KwaZulu-Natal) to experience a fascinating turtle tracking excursion.

It is a remarkable sight to watch leatherback turtles – the largest in the world – and the loggerhead turtles make their way out of the waters and up the sands to lay their eggs just meters from where they themselves were once born, or to watch the hatchlings emerge from the nests and begin their epic journey to the sea. The turtle tracking excursion is an evening tour, generally starting after dinner and possibly returning late at night.

There are only a few authorized concessions within the park where it is possible to observe this remarkable sight. Thonga Beach Lodge is ideally located and highly recommended. This is an exclusive wildlife experience and one not to be missed.
