Take A Hike Up Lion’s Head…

08/08/2017
Hiking up Cape Town’s Lion’s Head is a popular activity amongst locals and visitors alike, especially over the summer weekends and with the rise of the full moon.

If you’re planning to make your way up this iconic mountain slope, here are some things you should know:

  • The hike starts from Signal Hill Road and takes about 2 hours, but allow for more time to enjoy the views along the way and from atop. Even though it is a moderate route, it can get steep toward the end, where chains and ladders will help you out for the final bit. A second route option, slightly longer, avoids the chains and allows for a graduate incline.
  • We recommend making it a group effort and always sticking to the path, so as not to damage the mountain fauna.
  • Wear shoes with a good grip, and don’t forget your sunhat, water and snacks! Lion’s Head is also popular for its full-moon hikes, so remember to bring something warm and a headlight.
