Day 4: Swellendam
After breakfast, your road journey continues to Schoone Oordt in the charming town of Swellendam. Schoone Oordt Country House translates into “beautiful haven” and this Victorian homestead is precisely that. It is set in verdant gardens in the farming town of Swellendam, where time slows down from the chaotic city. This charming country house blends old-world sophistication with the luxury of the modern. Meal times are a delight and breakfasts are served in the conservatory where sunlight frolics. Dinners are served in Koornlands Restaurant, one of the best restaurants in Swellendam, and are a fusion of Cape Country and European cuisine. This area offers a variety of activities from hiking and horse trails to bike trails and water sports. Overnight at Schoone Oordt Country House. [B]
Day 5 - 6: Knysna
After breakfast, drive along the celebrated Garden Route to Tsala Treetop Lodge. The 5-star Tsala Treetop Lodge promises a magical stay in South Africa’s beautiful Garden Route region. Set between the holiday towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay in the trees of an ancient indigenous forest, the lodge provides luxury accommodation. It’s a fantastical destination with an “afro-baroque” décor combining the rich diversity of African culture with sophisticated European touches. The main lodge affords spectacular views from the dining room, glass-fronted lounge or expansive open decks above the forest floor. Linked to the suites by elevated walkways, the main lodge is where guests gather for drinks in the evenings and to enjoy the gourmet fare served up in the glass-walled dining room or on the suspended deck. Optional extras: Ocean odyssey tour; Marine eco-tour; Featherbed John Benn Cruise on Knysna Lagoon Overnight at Tsala Treetop Lodge. [B]
Day 7 - 9: Addo Elephant National Park
After breakfast, continue on your Garden Route road trip to the beautiful Gorah Elephant Camp. Gorah Elephant Camp is a premier Big 5 safari lodge. Gorah is the only private concession and camp that is in the heart of the famous Addo Elephant National Park, home to an abundant number of these mighty beasts. This exclusive Relais & Chateaux lodge manages to recapture the romance of authentic safaris from a bygone era. The main house has been restored in the colonial style of the 19th Century, with beautiful attention to detail. Antiques and original wood furniture are prominent pieces which radiate this old-world sense of safari travel. When you aren’t exploring Addo on an open-vehicle game drive, you can spend time relaxing in the thatched boma or taking a dip in the rock swimming pool. Overnight at Gorah Elephant Camp. [B, L, D]
After breakfast, make your way to Port Elizabeth to drop off your rental vehicle and continue with your onward travel arrangements. [B]
Without the professional, timeous and effortless support from Zelda and her team this historical event would have been impossible and probably sub-standard. I can highly recommend them for your next event – be it big or small.
